First Sikh Cricket Team Plays in Pakistan

Sikhs of Pakistan have formed a cricket team for the first time comprising members of the community only.

The 'Khalsa XI' captained by Mahinderpal Singh of Nankana Sahib is currently playing matches with teams of other minority communities of Pakistan in the Minority Sports Festival being held in a run-up to National Minority Day to be celebrated on August 11.

Talking to TOI over phone from Lahore, a member of Pakistan Punjab provincial assembly from Narowal and the man behind Khalsa XI, Ramesh Arora said an all-Sikh cricket team had been formed in the country for the first time.



"We got fine cricketers from among the budding Sikh players of Pakistan," said Ramesh. He said in his capacity as a Sikh minority MPA and the federal ministry of human rights bear expenses for training of Sikh cricketers. He informed that Hindu and Christian cricket teams were also participating in the Minority Sports Festival.
